Focused on understanding human culture with special regard to the principles and ethics that underlie its laws, the B.A. in humanities-prelaw provides an interdisciplinary foundation in the humanities and the law.

This program cultivates skills that are key to success in law school: critical thinking, reading comprehension and clear communication.

You’ll develop and strengthen your ability to analyze complex situations, evaluate facts and principles and draw logical conclusions. You will learn to navigate and understand challenging texts such as court opinions and statutes and build proficiency in effective oral and written communication.

This project involves original research on a topic of your choosing, working with a committee of faculty members who will guide you through the two-semester process. This experience and your final written work are excellent preparation for the rigors of law school—and a perfect highlight for your law school applications.

The Humanities - Prelaw, B.A., Curriculum

The curriculum provides a foundation in history to understand the origins, social dynamics and cultural values that shaped the American nation. You will explore the U.S. Constitution, civil liberties, civil rights, and the judicial system.

The program includes the study of key legal cases that address the distribution of power among national, state and local governments, as well as individuals.
